As you all know, my Everleigh absolutely refuses to wear hair bows. I can sometimes con her into letting me put her hair in piggies for a minute, but once she remembers they're in they come right back out. Also, she inherited my hair's magical shape-shifting ability to hold a form, so if I put her hair in piggies and she takes them out on the way to the store, her hair will still be in the basic shape of pigtails--but weirder. It doesn't lay back flat, even if they were only in for like 3 minutes.
ANYWAYS, in the hopes that some day I could convince her that bows are awesome, I took on this DIY project. And you know what? It was pretty easy and fun. You can do it too!
1). Get yourself some wool felt. I chose blue and yellow squares and they were like .50 each.
2). Follow the directions found HERE on the adorable site makeit-loveit.
3). Try to get your daughter to wear it and if all else fails, rock it out yourself!

BANGS!
Okay, so I got really bored with my hair being more or less the same for about 9 years now, and out of the blue last week decided to change it up. I typically wait until I desperately want a change to even think about calling in professional help. This time, I basically just googled how to cut your own bangs, and went for it.
The result? Not terrible, although not really the adorable Zooey Deschanel look I was hoping for either (have I mentioned that I rarely pick realistic people to have hair crushes on? Someone with completely different texture, color, etc. might not be the best role model...). I guess I don't hate it but I also kind of feel like I'm back in 9th grade again.
Anyone else have interesting trying to cut your own hair experiences?

Hair Bow Revolt
I've never been one of those moms who insisted on having a gigantic bow on her baby girl's head from the second she entered the world. While I've certainly put a headband or two on Ev in my day, I've tried not to let the, "he's so cute" comments bother me. Yes. My daughter has short baby-hair. It's growing at its own pace. Someday it will probably be awesome. For right now, it's really really short.
I'm cool with Everleigh bare-heading it most of the time :) But there are occasions when I have the PERFECT little bow that would match her outfit just right. And you know what? She outright refuses to let me put the bow on her. Doesn't matter if it's a super lightweight clip or a soft baby-bow or a tiny clear rubber band to pull up her bangs. Her hair is off limits and bows are a no.
She actually thinks they're pretty and likes to look at them in the mirror as she pulls them out of her hair and then sets them back on top of her head.
Sigh. So I guess my girl will remain bow-less and continue getting the little boy comments for awhile longer. I do think it's funny she's chosen to take such a hard line on something at such a young age. Rebel without a cause. That's my girl.

My How Time Flies!!!
I cannot believe it is Thursday already and I haven't blogged in ages. I'm sorry for you regular readers...I know it's a drag to check someone's blog and there's no change day after day. I am solemnly vowing to attempt to do right by you, but please know I may fail.
It seems like days go by really slowly but the weeks fly fly fly. Do you ever feel that way? I lie awake in bed at night, and in my sheer exhaustion I think of all kinds of cool, witty, and fun things to blog about. Then when I wake up, my mind is blank and I'm rushing here and there.
Here's a little nugget. I work with the severely mentally ill population. It is never dull. Since beginning work a few months back, I've really gotten some critical style advice from some clients.
I've been asked why my nose is crooked, and informed that getting a nose job and fake nails with a design on it would really improve my look. I've also been told that I look like a baby, and like a doll but chubby.
These things are probably all true (besides the nails design thing..I'm just not feeling it). In case you haven't seen enough pictures of me to notice, I have a pretty unique nose (thanks DAD), and you know, I've seen slimmer days. At first, I thought it was pretty awesome and funny to get this feedback from the overly candid. But today, I skipped the bagel and had a protein shake, and at lunch I ordered salad. Sometimes you just have to hear it from someone who's not trying to sugar coat the situation for you. I love my husband, but he's smart enough to chime in with things like, "I love your curves" and "you just had a BABY for goodness sake" uh...9 months ago. I think it stops being a valid excuse somewhere around NOW ;) It was nice while it lasted though.
Anyways, I'm deliriously tired while writing this due to Everleigh's new amazing ability to wake herself every 2 hours throughout the night crying. I just might lose it without a little REM sleep :) which I will hopefully get tonight after indulging in "good TV night" (Community, 30 Rock, and a little Parks and Rec = happy Thursdays!)
PS: I almost forgot!!! I totally chopped my hair yesterday in the cut I have been contemplating for months! It's super cute, but I'm still getting used to it. It's pretty fun, and it still looks girly in the in the front but a little more hip in the back. Yay for that new haircut feeling!

Grow Baby, Grow!
It seems like Everleigh is growing so fast these days! I swear, if I turn away for a minute she's bigger, taller, stronger, more aware. I'm now starting to have panicky feelings about her getting into EVERYTHING in the house, since she's a super curious little thing and is (at less than 6 months old) already a hair away from crawling.
Now every time I eat something, she tries to wrestle it away from me...except I don't think babies should eat tuna wraps with kettle chips. Or grilled chicken salad. Sorry kiddo, milk it is. We've actually started experimenting with a little baby food too and I have to say, this little lady loves her food. She likes the taste but doesn't eat much of anything. So far she's really digging yams, banana-strawberry, peaches, and some kind of chicken&veggie combo. But the quantity she eats is so small, she's still nursing at every meal. And sometimes throughout the night too. I've actually started getting used to feeling her 3 or 4 times at night, and it doesn't bother me that much any more. Thank God for breastfeeding.
On an entirely different note: I've decided to commit to growing my hair out again. There was a time in college where my hair was long and really pretty and I spent WAY too much time on it to ever admit publicly. Then any time I went through a life change or just simply got bored, I would chop my hair or dye it dark brown. While both of those things look awesome on others, neither ever looked good on me. Once in high school, I cut all my hair off because my boyfriend at the time loved girls with short hair and talked about it constantly. I surprised him with the big cut the night he planned to break up with me. I firmly believe the 2 were unrelated, but that was a huge slap in the face. After that I promised myself to never change my hair for anyone but myself.
When I found out I was pregnant with Evie, I thought (amongst other thoughts) that this would be a great opportunity to grow my hair out long again! Except my pregnant hair didn't really grow long-ways. It just got thicker and thicker and thicker until it was crazy big and hovered at about the same length. Boo. Sick to death of the sheer quantity of hair I had going on, I made a hormonal decision to chop it the week before Ev was due. This was probably also a mistake. When you're already huge and puffy and feel like crap, cutting off your hair is likely not the way to increase your self-esteem.
So now that Ev is almost 6 months old (I can't believe it!), and I've gone through the whole post-baby hair loss thing where you get a handful in the shower every now and then, I'm thinking now is the time :) I would really love to have a weird hipster cut like this

but we'll see. In the meantime, all I can say is grow baby grow.
